Out And About
St Andrews itself is a wonderfully historical town which seems built for exploring. The town centre is still intact and has a strong medieval layout which makes for fascinating walking tours and excursions. If you take your time you will find several delightful old treasures in amongst the streets, buildings and shopping districts. Shopping is best enjoyed at Market Street and South Street. Maps of this ancient town centre are readily available locally to make exploring just that much easier.
The beach at St Andrews was made famous in the film Chariots of Fire and is every bit as wonderful, as it looks in the film. Although the weather does not allow for sunbathing very often, a brisk walk along the long beach with its beautiful white sand is a joy. The award-winning Blue Flag West Sands beach is now a popular haunt both with kiting enthusiasts and those just beginning. West Sands is also host to children’s sand-castle building competitions during the summer months and is used year round for sports such as kiting, parakarting and mountain boarding.
St Andrews makes the ideal base for sight-seeing and visiting various attractions. Don’t miss some of the most popular attractions just a short drive away.
